Daily Lectio Prayers

Daily Lectio Prayer

God
Isaiah 30:15 (ESV): In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.

I give myself to you GOD, to be with you and rest in you.

I consent to your presence and action within me.

Father
Matthew 6:6 (ESV): But when you pray, go into your room, and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

I go into the room of my soul, close the door, and pray with you in secret. Please renew my union with you and transform my heart, soul, mind, and strength.

Son
Matthew 11:28 (ESV): Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

I come to you Jesus tired and heavy laden for rest in, with, and through you.

Cover me with your blood so I can be in your presence.

Holy Spirit
Romans 8:26 (ESV): The Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.

Holy Spirit, I ask you to please help me rest and pray.

Only you know what I need and how to pray for it.

THE WORD gives Spirit, Life, & Transformation

James 1:21 (ESV): receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.

Humbly receive the word and implant it in your heart, soul, and mind and then obey it.

John 6:63 (ESV): It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life

The Spirit is what gives me life and that is found in the WORD of God!

Romans 12:2 (ESV): Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

To be transformed you have to renew your mind. To renew your mind you have to use your thoughts. And you gave to use your thoughts on the WORD which gives spirit and life.

What is the Lord saying to you in these scriptures?

What can you say to the Lord in a response to His Word?

What conversion of Mind, Heart, and Life is the Lord asking of you today?

Spend a few moments in silence resting in the presence of the Lord.

Nourished, by Gods Word, what is one specific way you can go forth and make your life a gift for others?

Rejoice always

Pray without ceasing

Give thanks in all circumstances

This is the Will of God in Christ Jesus for you

The Law and the Gospel

Whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all. JAMES 2:10

The moral law does not consider our weaknesses as human beings; in fact, it does not take into account our heredity or infirmities. It simply demands that we be absolutely moral. The moral law never changes, either for the highest of society or for the weakest in the world. It is enduring and eternally the same. The moral law, ordained by God, does not make itself weak to the weak by excusing our shortcomings. It remains absolute for all time and eternity. If we are not aware of this, it is because we are less than alive. Once we do realize it, our life immediately becomes a fatal tragedy. “I was alive once without the law, but when the commandment came, sin revived and I died” (Romans 7:9). The moment we realize this, the Spirit of God convicts us of sin. Until a person gets there and sees that there is no hope, the Cross of Christ remains absurd to him. Conviction of sin always brings a fearful, confining sense of the law. It makes a person hopeless— “…sold under sin” (Romans 7:14). I, a guilty sinner, can never work to get right with God— it is impossible. There is only one way by which I can get right with God, and that is through the death of Jesus Christ. I must get rid of the underlying idea that I can ever be right with God because of my obedience. Who of us could ever obey God to absolute perfection!

We only begin to realize the power of the moral law once we see that it comes with a condition and a promise. But God never coerces us. Sometimes we wish He would make us be obedient, and at other times we wish He would leave us alone. Whenever God’s will is in complete control, He removes all pressure. And when we deliberately choose to obey Him, He will reach to the remotest star and to the ends of the earth to assist us with all of His almighty power

Curiosity Kills

The devil tries to present his pleasures as infinitely more pleasurable and delightful than they actually are.

Turn away from such thoughts immediately and not be drawn into curiosity!

Curiosity is a means that the devil uses to lead many to sin. We should only concern ourselves with what we need to know moment by moment.

It is Curiosity that led to the fall originally…why are you always glancing at it the forbidden fruit?

What is the good of looking at what you are forbidden to eat?

For when you look intently at something the serpent slips into your heart and coaxes you. He leads you in your reason with flattery.

He speaks fear with lies. He increases your interest while he stirs up your greed. He sharpens your curiosity while he prompts your desire. He offers what is forbidden and takes away what is given. He holds out an apple and snatches away paradise.
