The Mercy Justice Tension

In Christ, God offers us forgiveness of a debt we could never pay – the debt of sin. But when we refuse to forgive the little offenses others cause us, we handcuff God’s mercy and put ourselves under strict justice. Previously, Christ pointed out that “For as you judge, so will you be judged, and the measure with which you measure will be measured out to you.” (Matthew 7:2) This is the way God has found to unfurl his mercy without compromising his justice; he leaves each person free to choose between the two.

But this lesson is hard for us to learn. We tend to resent not only willful offenses, but also innocent mistakes. Whenever someone else causes us even a tiny inconvenience, we can easily lash out at the offender. This is especially the case close to home – we often have less patience with our siblings and parents (or roommates) than we do with strangers and acquaintances.

In this parable, as in the Our Father, Jesus gives us the secret to forming a patient, forgiving heart. It consists in recognizing the immense evil of our own sin, and thereby perceiving the vastness of God’s goodness in forgiving it. Until we see how ugly are the ingratitude and selfishness that characterize our relationship with God, we will never grasp how generous is his forgiveness. When we do, however, our shriveled hearts expand, and our joyful patience knows no bounds.

How to get Salvation

Acts 3:14 (RSV2CE): the Holy and Righteous One

Acts 4:10 (RSV2CE): the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead.

Acts 3:16 (RSV2CE): And his name, by faith in his name… and the faith which is through Jesus...

Acts 4:12 (RSV2CE): 12 And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.

I crucified Him, but God raised Him from the dead. By His Name, Jesus Christ of Nazareth the Holy and Righteous One, by faith in His Name, by the Faith through Jesus, there is no salvation in any other Name under Heaven given to men by which we are saved.

Jesus Christ of Nazareth the Holy and Righteous One in Your Name I pray, please grant me salvation by faith in with and through You.

Amen.

The only program for me is Gods program

The only program for me is God’s program. Let this day come as it may. God sends it; he and no one else. Let it come as it may, we are sure that it comes wrapped in the love of our Lord and destined to sanctify us. We ought to say: “I will sanctify myself precisely by the events of this day because the loving providence of God has sent them to me. He is acquainted with my necessities; he knows what is most conducive to my sanctification.” If we were to understand this, would not our soul be a veritable ocean of peace?

One final objection: I acknowledge that by following God’s plan and subjecting myself to his will, I walk in security and live in peace. But anxieties arise on this account, for by the abuse of my liberty I may resist the divine will, go astray and follow a crooked path. Is not this a reasonable cause for worry? No. It is a reasonable cause for repentance, for tears and a firm resolution, but not for the loss of peace. God does not cease being good because I am bad, nor does he cease seeking me because I go astray. Did he not reveal to us his own heart in the parable of the Good Shepherd who left the ninety-nine sheep while he ran after the one that was lost? Yes, I have absolute certainty that if I go astray, Jesus will seek me. I shall place myself in his omnipotent hands. I shall rest upon his shoulders and return to the fold. Perhaps I must suffer to return to the right path, but blessed be the sufferings which atone for my fault and bring me back to my God.

Whatever our failings may be, whatever our wanderings, we have no right to lose either hope or peace. We are Christians and have received peace as a gift from heaven, as a seal of Christ, that peace which the world can neither give nor take away. I shall suffer, I shall repent, I shall do penance, I shall sacrifice myself—everything, but with peace in my heart; for I know that here is someone who loves me in spite of my infidelities; someone who, when I wander, puts me back on the right path; who, when I fall, raises me up.

How God Saves

It is an awesome thing that we are sent to the whole world with the greatest news in the world — with a free offer for all who believe. And it is an awesome thing that as many as are appointed to eternal life believe (Acts 13:48).

It is an awesome thing that God commands all people everywhere to repent (Acts 17:30). And it is an awesome thing that God grants repentance to whom he will (2 Timothy 2:25).

It is an awesome thing that God “desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth” (1 Timothy 2:4). And it is an awesome thing he acts decisively to draw particular people to the truth (John 6:44).

you could say, “I will draw all of my sheep,” because Jesus says in John 10:15, “I lay down my life for the sheep,” and in John 10:27, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” Or you could say, “I will draw all who are of the truth,” because Jesus says in John 18:37, “Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.” Or you could say, “I will draw all who are of God,” because Jesus says in John 8:47, “Whoever is of God hears the words of God.” Or you could say, “I will draw all that the Father gives to me,” because John 6:37 says, “All that the Father gives me will come to me.”

In other words, running straight through the Gospel of John is the truth that God the Father and God the Son decisively draw people out of darkness into light. And Christ died for this. He was lifted up for this. What John 12:32 adds is that this happens today in history by pointing the whole world to the crucified Christ and preaching the good news that whoever believes on him will be saved. In that preaching of the lifted up Christ, God opens the ears of the deaf. The sheep hear his voice and follow Jesus (John 10:16, 27).

God taught you. He did so externally by bringing you into contact with Christ in the word. And he did so internally by overcoming your rebellion so you could see Christ for who he really is. And when you saw him for who he is, you came to him, you received him. That is how you were drawn. And that is how those you love will be drawn.

Our job is to make the word known. To display Christ and his work on the cross as clearly as we can. And to pray that God will do his humbling, teaching, drawing work. May we see a great outpouring of his power in these days.

The TRUTH

The Truth

The Truth of ourselves:

We are sinners.

We deserve Hell.

We deserve the consequences for our sin.

We keep sinning because we know we deserve punishment and more sin punishes ourselves. (Self destruction because of guilt and shame)

The Gospel Truth:

God made a way back to grace filled supernatural living. (Original Adam before the fall)

God sent Jesus (he came himself to tell us)

Jesus Paid the sin debt of the world.

Blood atones for sin. The blood of God paid the price for all who come.

God himself loves you so much he came himself,  paid with his own blood to make you His own  holy tabernacle. This tabernacle is to house the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is to guide you as a new supernatural being.

The truth of Hell:

The way to hell is to refuse the truths that you are a sinner, that you need pardon with the blood of God, and that you need supernatural power to live Holy.

The Truth of Dependency and evil:

He blots out of his book those who sin against him. You must continue your journey in the attitude of dependency and repentance in confession and contrition. You don’t know the hour He will come for your reckoning. Stay Alert the Devil is seeking to devour You.

Total collapse of Ego and Clinging to God and His Power is ANSWER-HUMILITY

Total collapse of Ego and Clinging to God and His Power is ANSWER-HUMILITY

Unless the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it’ (Ps. 126:1). However spiritual and holy a man may be, he cannot regard himself as absolutely secure.

The Angels themselves, enriched with sanctity, were not safe in Paradise.

Man, endowed with innocence, was not safe in his earthly paradise.

What safety, therefore, can there be for us with our corrupt nature, amid so many perils and so many enemies who within and without are ever seeking insidiously to undermine our own eternal salvation?

In order to be eternally damned, it is enough that I should follow the dictates of nature; but to be saved, it is necessary that divine grace should prevent (go before) and accompany me, should follow and help me, watch over me and never abandon me.

Oh, how right therefore was St. Paul in exhorting us to ‘work out our salvation’—which is for all eternity—’with fear and trembling’ (Phil. 2:12).”

Most conversion experiences, whatever their variety, do have a common denominator of ego collapse at depth. The individual faces an impossible dilemma.

The enlightened person realizes he leads a double life. He is very much the actor. To the outer world he presents his stage character. This is the one he likes his fellows to see. He wants to enjoy a certain reputation, but knows in his heart he doesn't deserve it.

This conversion belief takes us off the center of the universe and allows us to transfer our problems to God and His power outside of ourselves. We turn to this Power for the strength we need to stop sinning and become holy. We put our problems in God's hands and leave it there. We stop trying to run our own life and seek to let God run it for us.

Who are You?

The Lord, the Holy One of Israel says to you..
Who do you think you are to judge me and my ways.
I create who, what, how, and for My purpose.
Do you think you have the right to tell me what to do with my creation?
I will show my Glory, Mercy and Wrath however I choose. I am the one who created it all.

I REPENT, I am not able to understand. Have Mercy on me Lord, the Holy One!

Isaiah 45:11–12 (NABRE): 11 Thus says the Lord,
the Holy One of Israel, his maker:
Do you question me about my children,
tell me how to treat the work of my hands?
12 It was I who made the earth
and created the people upon it;
It was my hands that stretched out the heavens;
I gave the order to all their host.

Romans 9:20–23 (NABRE): 20 But who indeed are you, a human being, to talk back to God? Will what is made say to its maker, “Why have you created me so?” 21 Or does not the potter have a right over the clay, to make out of the same lump one vessel for a noble purpose and another for an ignoble one? 22 What if God, wishing to show his wrath and make known his power, has endured with much patience the vessels of wrath made for destruction? 23 This was to make known the riches of his glory to the vessels of mercy, which he has prepared previously for glory.

Job 42:2–6 (NABRE): I know that you can do all things,
and that no purpose of yours can be hindered.
3 “Who is this who obscures counsel with ignorance?”
I have spoken but did not understand;
things too marvelous for me, which I did not know.
4 “Listen, and I will speak;
I will question you, and you tell me the answers.”
5 By hearsay I had heard of you,
but now my eye has seen you.
6 Therefore I disown what I have said,
and repent in dust and ashes.
