It is impossible to bring light to others
if we are without light ourselves.
A disciple’s light
does not come from his own acuteness of discernment,
but from the teachings of Christ
which he has obediently accepted and followed,
Only to the extent in which we assimilate and express
the teaching and example of the Master in our own lives,
can we be beacons of light for our brothers
and attract them to Christ.
This is a work to engage us for a lifetime
in a continuous effort to become ever more like Christ;
and one that requires a clear introspection
which will enable us to recognize and correct our faults.
To fight evil in others,
and not to fight it in our own heart
is hypocrisy.
the most important thing is always a man’s interior,
where all his behavior originates.
Just as the fruit makes known the quality of a tree,
so do a man’s works reveal
the goodness or wickedness of his heart.
The hypocrite can disguise himself as much as he wants,
but sooner or later the good or evil in his heart
overflows and makes itself known.
He needs a heart that has been renewed
and formed according to Christ’s teachings.
A heart that is totally converted to the gospel.
The obligation is an arduous one because
sin and temptation are always lying in wait,
even in the heart of a disciple.
