Knowing and Believing

It is true: we can have the Lord near us, walk beside him, and still not recognize him; we can have an excellent knowledge of the Scriptures, yet not grasp the deep meaning that reveals God to us. That is the reason many do not succeed in making the leap from knowing to believing, from knowing a great many things to understanding the one thing necessary. Even seeing the Savior is not enough for belief, if faith does not enlighten us interiorly.

Many believe in Jesus, even to acknowledging him as an historical person, and to accepting what Scripture and the Gospels say of him, yet they do not believe in him as a person who is always alive and present, who wants to be our companion on the road, our friend, and the guest of our heart.
