14 but each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. 15 Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin; and sin when it is full-grown brings forth death. (James 1:14–15, RSV2CE)
The devil does not tempt me. My own flesh is tempted by my own desires. No one or nothing can make me sin. I choose to do it by wanting something else more than I want to stay with Jesus and His will.
When I desire something I think about it. Then I decide to do it. Then it brings death when I do. It is a trick. It seems like it is good but when I do it, it kills life from my soul instead of giving life. Abstaining from the desire brings life to my soul because life is in Jesus. Sin is death, life is Christ. I must choose to kill the desires that lead to death by refusing thoughts about them. Keep my thoughts on clinging to Jesus and asking Him to direct my mind.
God loves me but he refuses to control, he is a gentleman and waits for us to request. He will not override us. He made us free and we have choice to love him and do his will or not. He absolutely will not revoke this gift. There is a real danger to us not to get ourselves in line with his will but he will not coerce or force-he offers. We must choose to love him more than our desires for sin or we will not make it. He does not force us to love him and heaven. Love must be a choice not a programmed response. You cannot go to Heaven loving sin. Heaven is an acquired taste and it takes time. The odds of wanting it after a life of sin in the world is close to nill.
