True Love is not a feeling…
It is a choice of the Will!
There is no thought here of love as a sentiment, but of love that is will: “If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love” (ib. 10).
In Jesus’ teaching and example we are shown the way of true love and of genuine communion with God: to seek and to desire in everything that which God wills.
This love and this communion, then, are nourished and intensified by
1. sacramental life,
2. prayer,
3. listening to and meditating upon the word of God,
4. self-denial,
5. active brotherly service,
6. and the practice of all the virtues.
