READ

For I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy, for I betrothed you to one husband, so that I might present you as a pure virgin to Christ. (2 Corinthians 11:2, LSB)

But I fear that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds will be corrupted from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ. (2 Corinthians 11:3, LSB)

REFLECT

I have been betrothed to Jesus. I am to be a pure virgin presented to Christ. He is to be my husband. What does a husband do? Wife do? I am to reverence and submit to His authority as a loving provider, protector, and lover trusting in His perfect care for me.

The serpent deceived Eve making her doubt her loving creator who had her best interest in mind and had provided all she needed with instructions to continue in that perfect care.

I am to guard against loosing that trust by having g a simple devotion to Christ. Do not let my mind or heart get corrupted.

PRAY

God, you are all good. You want to take care of me. I have to be willing to respond to this love. That is all our part-to respond with willingness in trust and obedience. I must believe the gospel!

What exactly is the Gospel and how do I respond?

The Gospel is the "good news" of Jesus Christ's life (fulfilling law), death (as a sacrifice for sin), and resurrection (humanity and divinity joined) offering salvation from sin (walk in grace) and reconciliation with God (His presence).

The required response involves repentant faith: acknowledging sin and wanting to not walk in it anymore, believing Jesus is the only way to be saved (he paid), trusting in His finished work walking by grace, and turning to follow Him in faith and obedience as Lord and Master who knows best for me and wants to take care of me.

The Gospel is God's rescue plan, and responding means accepting that rescue through faith in Jesus, leading to a transformed life of obedience.
