15 Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.
17 And the world is passing away, and also its lusts, but the one who does the will of God abides forever. (1 John 2:15–17, LSB)
Do not love the things or ways of the world. If love of the world is in you the love of the Father is not. You cannot have two loves.
Love of the world:
Lust of flesh: comfort: drive for more and more
Lust of eyes: best of all things materialism
Pride of life: arrogance, self sufficiency, control and achievement
Eves temptation: lust of flesh (satisfy hunger), lust of eyes (looked good to eat), pride of life (makes one wise like God)
I am to love God over all things or I get trapped into idolatry of self focus. I start to look at the world through flesh eyes instead of Gods eyes. Help me my King! Help me see truth not through darkened evil eyes!! Amen.
