8 On the other hand, I am writing a new commandment to you, which is true in Him and in you, because the darkness is passing away and the true Light is already shining.
9 The one who says he is in the Light and yet hates his brother is in the darkness until now.
11 But the one who hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going because the darkness blinded his eyes. (1 John 2:8-9,11, LSB)
Darkness is passing away. Jesus is here and His true light is shinning. If I have any hate in my heart toward anyone I am still in darkness and continuing to walk in darkness. I am blind. I can hate sin but not people.
Jesus, it is very difficult to separate what we do from what we are in my mind. But we are all people made in your image and we do evil. So I can hate what we do but not who we are. If I hate a person I am no longer hating what they do but who they are which is your image. So I am hating you. That cannot stand and I am in darkness. Help me Jesus see others images of you who have sullied their image and pray for their conversion not their destruction. We want to destroy evil and think the person is evil when in reality the person is good and choosing to do evil. They are separate. Forgive me and help me see correctly. Amen.
