3 And by this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments.
4 The one who says, “I have come to know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him;
5 but whoever keeps His word, truly in him the love of God has been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him:
6 the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked. (1 John 2:3–6, LSB)
If I do your commandments I show that I have come to know you. I believe you know best how I work so I want to obey your directions on how to live do I can have divine life. If I don’t do your commands I show that I have not really met you and believe you love me and want good for me. Keeping your word stems from loving you knowing you love me and are directing me to good so love is being perfected. If I want to abide with you I must keep in step with you.
Jesus, sometimes I hear myself instead of you thinking my way is right when in truth I am not listening and hoping you will bless my decisions. Please Jesus, I know you are not coercing so I ask you for more docility on my part. I am very self oriented, I need to change my view. Come Holy Spirit set me free of myself do I can see and hear clearly your way. Amen.
