What is Prayer?
The essential act of prayer is standing unprotected before God.
What then will God do? He will take possession of us.
To say, therefore, that prayer is simple does not mean it is easy; we may find it very difficult, but it is not complex.
The key is desire. What do we truly long for? Ask yourself. What do I really want when I pray? Do you want to be possessed by God? Or, do you want to want it?
Challenged by it, forced to say whether or not we want to be possessed by God, many of us may reply, perhaps shamefacedly, that we aren’t quite sure – perhaps we don’t, but, we might acknowledge, we wish we did.
And that is enough. Do you want to want it?
