Live 4 The LORD

25 But immediately a woman, whose little daughter was possessed by an unclean spirit, heard of him, and came and fell down at his feet. 26 Now the woman was a Greek, a Syrophoenician by birth. And she begged him to cast the demon out of her daughter. 27 And he said to her, “Let the children first be fed, for it is not right to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.” 28 But she answered him, “Yes, Lord; yet even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.” 29 And he said to her, “For this saying you may go your way; the demon has left your daughter.” 30 And she went home, and found the child lying in bed, and the demon gone.  (Mark 7:25–30, RSV2CE)

REFLECT

A mother had a daughter possessed by a demon. She comes to Jesus. She falls at Jesus’ feet. She begs for her daughter’s healing. 

Jesus says He came for the Jews, His children. It is not right to give their inheritance to others.

The woman agrees in humility that she is not worthy. She also says the children have crumbs that fall to the ground and can she have that?

Jesus says yes she can and because of the way she answered her request is granted immediately. 

I am to know I am not Jewish and the chosen are the Jews. No one is owed grace or salvation. But now, the crumbs are being offered. I must humbly acknowledge my lowliness and beg for healing of my sin with respect and unworthiness so I can be with Him forever. All man is unworthy of this amazing grace. But Jesus is so loving He has opened the gates to all. We cannot come in presumption. We must come as unworthy beggars in need of a doctor. 

RESOLUTION

Jesus, thank you for opening up salvation to gentiles. Thank you for offering yourself for me. I come to you, knowing my desperate need of healing in my thoughts, words, and deeds due to sin in my soul. Only you can heal my soul. Thank you for baptizing me and giving me new life. I am now in You. Help me walk this new life out every single day. Wash me in your cleansing blood every moment. Change my heart oh God to love you and your ways so I go and sin no more. You are most merciful to the repentant. 

REST

I know you hear my prayers. I know if I pray in your will it will be done since you said to ask the Father in your name and He will do it. I ask Father, in the name of Jesus, save me and make me persevere all the way home in You. Come Holy Spirit! I trust in You. Amen.
