31 And he began to teach them that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. 32 And he said this plainly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him. 33 But •turning and seeing his disciples, he rebuked Peter, and said, “Get behind me, Satan! For you are not on the side of God, but of men.”
34 And he called to him the multitude with his disciples, and said to them, “If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 35 For whoever would save his life will lose it; and whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel’s will save it. 36 For what does it profit a man, to gain the whole world and forfeit his life? 37 For what can a man give in return for his life? 38 For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of man also be ashamed, when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels. (Mark 8:31–38, RSV2CE)
REFLECT
Jesus says the words of the plan for Him. God has a plan for me and every human being; they can choose to accept or reject.
Peter rebukes Jesus for this plan. (Satan also did not want to serve God’s plan and fell from grace)
Jesus rebukes Peter calling him Satan for not being on God’s side. (We can choose to be with or against God-no middle)
Jesus teaches that if you want to belong to God and be on God’s side you must deny yourself, be willing to be crucified for your belief and follow Jesus Christ (action not lip service-faith without works is dead)
Truth is truth whether we believe it, whether we like it, or Not. If you die rejecting truth you are living a delusional life.
If you try and save your mortal life (live worldly) you lose eternal life. What does this profit expect pain and anguish for eternity. (Why would anyone want that?)
If you lose your mortal life for the gospel (be truth and tell the truth even to death) you will live in eternity happily forever.
This generation is adulterous toward God who is their perfect husband. They are sinful and will not convert to God’s ways who made the world and has a purpose for good not evil. He made us and knows best how our soul and body work, yet we are wanting wrong desires that destroy ourselves and others.
If you are ashamed of righteousness and of Jesus, then Jesus will be ashamed of you when He comes in His glory.
RESOLUTION
I accept your plan for my life. I want to be on your side my God. I believe who you say you are and I trust you are truth and love. I know I must deny my worldly desires that are raging against my soul. I must crucify my flesh so I can learn your way. I choose to be crucified to the world who will persecute me for my beliefs in You and Your way. I want to live in truth not delusion. I do not want to be my own god, You are God! I believe you made me to love me and be with me forever, I choose to not reject eternity of love with you for passing desires. You are the perfect husband. You love, provide, protect, and tell the truth. I refuse to be an adulterous wife. I need conversion of my wrong desires to love and live your way free from sin. Help me learn your will for my life and be willing to forsake and fight the evil in my soul with your grace. I am not ashamed of you, I am ashamed of my sin and ask for deliverance. Please be pleased to come get me when you come in your glory!
REST
Thank you my God for coming and dying for me so I can be with you forever. I too want to live so I can bring others to you. Help me let you do surgery on my desires and free me from the sin and bondage that lingers. Thank you for loving me and wanting me with you for eternity. I love you!
