5 but for Cain and •his offering he had no regard. So •Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell. 6 •The Lord said to Cain, “Why are •you angry, and why has your countenance fallen? 7 If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin is lurking at the door; •its desire is for you, but you must master •it.” (Genesis 4:5–7, RSV2CE)
REFLECT
Cain chose to do wrong.
I have the power of choice to do right or ask God for the grace to do right. I am never to choose to do wrong.
Cain was angry at those who do right because they were accepted and he was not.
I can get angry when others do right and I am lazy and don’t. I blame them for being too good. Or I get jealous that I did not do it and start to hate. Instead of hating them it should spur me on to think if they can, I can too.
God came to Cain to warn him about his anger.
Anger is the cause of more rebellion.
God told Cain that if he chose to do right he would be accepted.
God made laws in the world that if followed leads to life and if broken leads to death and destruction. Gravity- use it as intended or you can die. Jumping off a house will kill you -Gravity is a law.
God told Cain if he chose to do wrong sin is going to try and take you down even further.
Sin darkens our mind and intellect. If I choose sin it will keep coming and try to keep taking me further and further from doing right. Anger must be dealt with so I learn what is causing it and see the truth that needs to be done to rectify.
God told Cain that he can master over sin and we must to do right and be accepted.
I am to master my sin. I am to constantly walk with God and ask for the grace to know and do the right thing. Because of the fall and my sinful state I cannot determine right, I must ask for God’s direction and grace to do.
PRAY
Jesus, please help me walk close to you. Only you have the words of eternal life. It is dark and confusing here because everyone is doing what they think is right. I want your will, your way, your power. I want to live with you forever. Help me see my anger and deal with it correctly so I do not do worse. Open my eyes to walk in life how you see not how the world or myself think.
REST
Thank you God for loving me and warning me. I want to listen and obey so I can do right and be accepted. I see I am accepted by deeds not just faith! I will rest in you! I know you hear and will help me. Amen.
