READ
31 He who comes from above is above all; he who is of the earth belongs to the earth, and of the earth he speaks; he who comes from heaven is above all. 32 He bears witness to what he has seen and heard, yet no one receives his testimony; 33 he who receives his testimony sets his seal to this, that God is true. 34 For he whom God has sent utters the words of God, for it is not by measure that he gives the Spirit; 35 the Father loves the Son, and has given all things into his hand. 36 He who believes in the Son has eternal life; he who does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God rests upon him. (John 3:31–36, RSV2CE)
REFLECTION
Jesus comes from Heaven. He bears witness about Heaven because He has been there and come from there.
People are not receiving the testimony about Heaven from someone that is from there.
That’s like me refusing to believe someone from another city who lives there and I am trying to tell them what it’s like without ever being there or seeing it. My reality is incorrect since I don’t “know” and theirs is absolutely correct because they live there. Why would I reject their testimony when they obviously “know” and I do not.
If I receive the testimony of Jesus who tells me the ways of heaven, I agree that God is true.
The Father loves Jesus. The Father has given everything to Jesus. If I believe in Jesus (accept his diagnosis of my sin, accept my need of His remedy, accept the Holy Spirit to walk out salvation in obedience) I have eternal life.
He who does not obey Jesus will not see true life-deliverance from sin. The wrath of God rests upon him because he refuses the testimony and remedy.
PRAY
Jesus, I believe you. I believe you came from heaven. I believe you want me to have eternal life. I know only obedience delivers me from sin. Give me light to know what sin is and power to combat it in my life. Help me live in with and through you my only remedy! Thank you for your offer of love! I accept! Help me. Amen.
