READ
27 And they came again to Jerusalem. And as he was walking in the temple, the chief priests and the scribes and the elders came to him, 28 and they said to him, “By what authority are you doing these things, or who gave you this authority to do them?” 29 •Jesus said to them, “I will ask you a question•; answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things. 30 Was the baptism of John from heaven or from men? Answer me.” 31 And they argued with one another•••, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say, ‘Why then did you not believe him?’ 32 But shall we say, ‘From men’?”—they were afraid of the people, for all held that John was a real prophet. 33 So they answered Jesus•, “We do not know.” And Jesus said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.” (Mark 11:27–33, RSV2CE)
REFLECT
The Leaders ask about the Authority of Jesus.
Jesus says if they answer a question He will give them a true answer to theirs.
Instead of actually thinking hard and bearing their soul with truth they manipulate play dumb and refuse to answer.
You cannot test and mock God. He owes us nothing. We’re sinners and we are rejecting him. If you refuse to get real he does not owe you any explanation of His reality. He would answer if you were sincerely seeking truth. They were seeking to oppose Him.
If I want answers I must be seeking for truth not my way. If I am wanting to put God to the test, I am opposing Him not asking for truth.
RESOLUTION
Jesus, I want truth. I am not looking to manipulate your responses into what I want. I am here to find out truth and what you want. Please help me. Help me keep my questions sincere and not manipulative. I am sorry for the times I came to you like that. Thank you for being willing to answer if I come to you with a seeking and longing heart.
REST
I know if I am open and honest with you. You will answer me with truth. Thank you for being willing to answer. Amen
