8 And in that region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with fear. 10 And the angel said to them, “Be not afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy which will come to all the people; 11 for to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,
14 “Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace among men with whom he is pleased.”
15 When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.” 16 And they went with haste, and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger. 17 And when they saw it they made known the saying which had been told them concerning this child; 18 and all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them. 19 But Mary kept all these things, pondering them in her heart. 20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them. (Luke 2:8–20, RSV2CE)
REFLECT
People were going about their business, working…
An Angel of the Lord shows up to give a message from God (must believe messengers sent by God-Angel, People, Church, Word, etc or may miss the message)
Seeing an angel fills with fear
The Angel says don’t be afraid gives good news.
The good news: Great Joy to all people! A Savior Born for You: The Christ, The Lord
We can have Joy: He comes as a baby so all will not be frightened to come to him. He humbles himself to have to rely on man, his own creation, to show meekness. The Christ: He is born to live the perfect life from birth to death, that you cannot, to fulfill all righteousness. The Lord: we are to let him have dominion over us.
Testimony from the angel and heavenly hosts Glory to God! He is pleased with men, wants to bring peace, and wants to save them.
The angels leave finishing their message we have a choice to make.
Believe the message, and with haste, go see Jesus, the message from the Lord.
They immediately go and proclaim glorifying and praising God for the truth of the message.
RESOLUTION
I want to have joy, have Jesus be my propitiation, let Jesus be Lord of my life. I choose to believe the Church, the Word, the Testimonies from those who tell me this good news that started on that day with the shepherds. God is pleased with me and wants me to be saved and have peace and joy in Him. I too must now go and proclaim this truth and glorify and praise God!
REST
Thank you Jesus for being all that I could not do. You give me the Holy Spirit to grace and empower me to live your covenant and commands for abundant living. Help me forsake the wrong ways, so I can live eternal life, knowing you now, all the way home. Amen. Thank you for this amazing Joy, Peace, and Salvation!!
