8 Therefore do not be ashamed of either the witness about our Lord or me His prisoner, but join with me in suffering for the gospel according to the power of God,

9 who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus from all eternity, (2 Timothy 1:8–9, LSB)

Join in the suffering for the gospel by the power of God. His purpose is to save me and live in Grace of holiness from Jesus who chose us from eternity to eternity.

For this reason I also suffer these things, but I am not ashamed; for I know whom I have believed and I am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him until that day. Guard, through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us, the treasure which has been entrusted to you. (2 Timothy 1:12, 14, LSB)

I am willing to suffer because I know what is coming. Jesus is able to guard my soul which I have entrusted to Him. By the Holy Spirit inside me He will guard the new life entrusted to me.

3 Suffer hardship with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.

4 No soldier in active service entangles himself in the affairs of everyday life, so that he may please the one who enlisted him as a soldier. (2 Timothy 2:3–4, LSB)

Be willing to suffer hardship as a soldier. No soldier entangles himself with everyday life. He does the mission. He focuses on the mission. I have been enlisted to share the kingdom of God and offer the message of the salvation of souls. That is my focus here, not the world and all its trappings. I will suffer because people don’t understand and think I’m crazy. So be it. Christ is with and in me, He will empower me to suffer for Him, if I accept the mission.

If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself. (2 Timothy 2:13, LSB)

Doubt or fear of not being saved **is not equivalent to denial or apostasy.** Biblical faith involves trust amid trials. Unlike outright rejection, doubt can be a prompt to deeper reliance on grace. God's faithfulness means He **does not abandon the baptized who seek Him,** offering mercy through sacraments like Penance, even for "faithlessness" short of mortal sin.

2 Timothy 2:13 comforts the fearful baptized soul: God's unchangeable faithfulness invites you to **endure in hope,** not despair. He cannot deny His merciful self, but calls you to cling to Him through grace.

**God's faithfulness, underscores His unchanging nature and commitment to His promises, even amid human weakness or doubt.** This does not guarantee automatic salvation regardless of one's response to grace, but it offers profound assurance for the baptized who struggle with fear or uncertainty, calling them to trust in Christ's mercy while persevering in faith.

**Yes, God's fidelity assures He will not "deny" you arbitrarily—He remains true to His covenant love, especially for the baptized struggling with doubt.** As Pope Francis proclaims, Jesus **"always waits for us to forgive us."** Yet this fidelity empowers response: Confess doubts, receive the Eucharist and Reconciliation, and unite fears to Christ's Passion.
