This is the genesis of that inexpressible “sense” of God and of divine things which gives us a taste of God and directs us toward him more than any reasoning on our part could ever do.
Then we perceive by intuition that God is the only One, infinitely above all his creatures; we sense that he is worthy of all our love, that in the face of his infinite lovableness, all that we are able to do for him is nothing.
Then we are led to make a total gift of ourselves. This is the way that, under the influence of the Holy Spirit, the baptized go to God as his children, wholly drawn by love for the Father and the desire to do his will. It is the one true way that leads to holiness.
