John 5:36-40
But I have a greater witness than John’s; for the works which the Father has given Me to finish—the very works that I do—bear witness of Me, that the Father has sent Me. And the Father Himself, who sent Me, has testified of Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time, nor seen His form. But you do not have His word abiding in you, because whom He sent, Him you do not believe. You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.
REFLECT
More than the witness of man is the witness of the works of Jesus. The Father gave Him His mission and works, these bear witness that He is who He says He is. Also, the Father Himself testified of Jesus in the Word (Old Testament).
But if the Old Testament is not in your heart you will not believe the testimony that Jesus is the fulfillment. You can know the scriptures. You can search the scriptures for eternal life. But if you do not have them in your heart and believe them, you will not understand Jesus is the one that gives eternal life. If you do not believe that you will not come to Jesus for that eternal life.
The scriptures do not give life by themselves, they point to Jesus who is the giver of life. Jesus is Life not the scriptures. The scriptures are the witness along with the works. Our part is to stop denying and start believing.
PRAY
God, Father, help me believe your Scripture! Jesus help me believe your works. Holy Spirit open my mind and heart to receive and believe these testimonies so I can come to Jesus for eternal life. Jesus, I know I am a sinner. I know you came to save sinners. If I come and believe, you said I can have living water that will well up within me. Help me come to you and live with you forever! Wash me clean and empower me to be who you made me to be. Thank you for being my Savior! I Love You Amen.
