Luke 22:48-51
But Jesus said to him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?”
When those around Him saw what was going to happen, they said to Him, “Lord, shall we strike with the sword?” And one of them struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his right ear.
But Jesus answered and said, “Permit even this.” And He touched his ear and healed him.
REFLECT
Judas betrays Jesus with a kiss of friendship. The apostles see he is going to be taken in, they ask if they should fight? Peter actually tries. Jesus answers to permit this evil. He even heals his enemy!
Who are you Jesus? You allow your enemies to kiss you knowing they are evil betrayers. You heal your enemy instead of letting him live with the consequences of his actions against you. Most of all you allow this atrocious evil against your own self, you tell the apostles to permit it! PERMIT IT!!
You are still loving every single person. This goes against every single instinct in my humanity. What is it you are hoping for? Do you hope that seeing your complete benevolence we will rethink our actions and become a follower? You even love Judas while betraying you and healing the soldier who comes to kill you.
Sometimes I get stuck in thinking you don’t love me. How could you possibly love me when my thoughts words and deeds just are utterly selfish and angry at everything. Yet you show here you are not angry, you are bearing. You bear the sin in hopes that we too will choose to do the same. I am to bear injustice in hopes it awakens someone to love.
PRAY
Oh my God, I am so far from true love. I am so confused and angry about how to act here. I am to imitate you, of course I can’t do it has to come from you. I am to surrender and let you live in me. I have to let go of my flesh who wants to lash out! I want to cut off some ears!! You want me to allow them to continue in their choices, in hopes they see my forbearance and change their mind?? What love is this? What strength is this? I confess it is NOT in me! I need you! I need help! Help me surrender! Help me want your will. Please take over. Amen.
