Luke 12:22-34
Then He said to His disciples, “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; nor about the body, what you will put on. Life is more than food, and the body is more than clothing.
Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap, which have neither storehouse nor barn; and God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds? And which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? If you then are not able to do the least, why are you anxious for the rest?
Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. If then God so clothes the grass, which today is in the field and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will He clothe you, O you of little faith?
“And do not seek what you should eat or what you should drink, nor have an anxious mind. For all these things the nations of the world seek after, and your Father knows that you need these things. But seek the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you.
“Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Sell what you have and give alms; provide yourselves money bags which do not grow old, a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches nor moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
REFLECT
Jesus is talking to those who are following as his disciples. Do not worry about your life.
Life is more than food. Your life is not about eating, it’s about presence.
The body is more than clothing. Your body is not judged by what you wear.
God feeds the ravens, of course he will feed you. God clothes the Lilly’s of course he will cloth you. You are more important than birds and grass.
You are his crowning glory. Will you let him Feed and cloth his way? Will you stop being anxious about things God promises to provide? Will you seek Him and His Kingdom first? Everything else will come with the Kingdom, God knows what you need! If you seek things first you will miss the kingdom.
Do not worry, God is your Father and wants to give you the Kingdom which has everything you need. Let go of worry and things, build up the kingdom treasures and you will loose nothing. Guard your heart to love the kingdom and you will have lasting treasure.
PRAY
Jesus, you tell me not to worry about my life, not food or clothing. That you feed the birds and clothe the grass, why should I worry that you would not take care of me. I am a baptized daughter adopted into your own body, you take care of your own body, and your crowning glory-all human beings.
You tell me to shift my focus. Seek first above all your kingdom. If I seek your kingdom I will find all I need. The kingdom is righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. Seek righteousness by wanting to be right with you. Seeking to do your will for my life daily. To do that I need the Holy Spirit to help me. If I call on the Holy Spirit to guide me into your presence to seek your Holy Will, I will have peace and joy. The peace cones from knowing I am in your will and joy knowing I am right with you trying to do your will for me. THIS IS LIFE!
You want me to have Life! You want me right with you, walking in your will, guided by your Holy Spirit, with the peace that calms all fears! I must be willing to TRUST. I must be willing to let go of the things. Seek You first, things will be provided.
Jesus, HELP Me! In your Holy Name I pray for your kingdom to be my first priority. I want to be with you, walk in your way for me, and have peace and joy knowing you will take care of me! I am your Daughter, baptized into your own body. I want True Life! Save me! Amen!
