Divine Providence refers to how God guides all of creation with wisdom and love toward its ultimate purpose [^1]. It encompasses God's plans for the universe and His active involvement in carrying them out [^2]. God's Providence means that He preserves, provides for, rules, and governs the world, directing all things by His infinite will [^5].
#### God's Providence and His Glory
God's ultimate end is that all creatures should manifest His glory [^3]. This is achieved as humans recognize God's work in nature, serve Him in obedience and love, and thereby attain the full development of their nature and to eternal happiness in God [^3].
#### God's Will and Human Freedom
Divine Providence works through the actions of creatures, granting humans the ability to cooperate freely with His plans [^9]. God gives creatures the dignity of acting on their own and being causes for each other [^2]. This means that while God has a plan, He also allows for human free will, which can sometimes lead to actions contrary to His will [^3]. Even in such cases, God can direct the consequences towards the final end for which the universe was created [^3].
#### Implications for Personal Events
While it might seem that everything that happens is God's direct will, Catholic theology acknowledges the role of secondary causes and human freedom [^2] [^9]. Not everything that occurs is a direct and specific act of God's will for His glory in isolation, but rather, God's Providence ensures that all things, even those resulting from sin or evil, ultimately serve His divine plan [^3]. This doesn't mean God wills evil, but He permits it, and in His wisdom, draws good from it [^3].
#### Summary
Divine Providence is God's loving guidance of creation towards its ultimate end, which is His glory. While God has a plan, He respects human freedom, and not everything that happens is a direct result of His specific will. However, God's Providence ensures that all events, even those stemming from sin or evil, ultimately contribute to His divine plan and glory.
