Lectio Divina: read, reflect, respond, rejoice!
My Lectio Divina: on Revelation 3
To the church in Philadelphia
I know your works
I have set before you and open door which no one is able to shut
You have little power yet you have kept my word and not denied my name
Because you have kept my word about patient endurance, I will keep you from the hour of trial that is coming on the whole world
This trial will try those who dwell on the Earth
I am coming soon
Hold fast to what you have so no one may seize your crown
The one who conquers will be a pillar in my temple, I will write on him the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which comes down from my God out of heaven and my own new name
He who has an ear let him hear
{Jesus sees me and knows all my works. He has set a door to Him open and no one can shut it. He sees that I am weak but that I am keeping his word and not denying His name. I am agreeing that what he calls sin is sin and pleading for grace to not sin against him. I am holding his name up as the only God and Savior of the world. I am keeping his word about patient endurance. I am telling others to follow him through the cross. Because of this I will be kept from the hour of trial that will be on the whole world. There is a trial coming on the entire world, I will be kept from that. (In grace? Or taken out and home?) Jesus is coming soon, COME LORD JESUS!! I must continue to hold fast and cling to Him. Keep my eyes on him. When I look away from him my eyes and understanding grow dark and someone could mislead me and I could fall and loose my reward. If I endure, I will be part of the temple of God! I will have the name of God on Me the name of God’s new City Jerusalem on me and even Jesus’s own new name on Me.
Thank you Jesus! You want me to be a part of You forever. You want me to endure this earthly exile here to win an everlasting position in You, Your Temple, Your City, and Your Name! I know the way is hard and through the cross. By your grace alone I can make it. You are coming for me soon. Help me cling to you and keep my eyes on you so I do not fall. It is dark here. Help me walk in you for you and to you all the way home. Amen!}
