The root of pride is found to consist in man not being subject to God and his rule.  Because of the unwillingness to submit to God and his rule, which is perfect love, it makes pride the most grievous of sins and worthy of hell.

If you are willing to surrender to me, you are safe even if it takes a lifetime to root out your sins. Walk one day at a time, in patience, relying on my grace through faith! Renounce control over your life, abandon yourself to my perfect love, and be free, you are safe in me!
