Matthew 4:17

From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

{The gospel Jesus preached is that the Kingdom has come to earth and you can’t get in unless you repent. To Repent means to turn from sin and dedicate oneself to the amendment of one's life. To change one's mind and agree that one's sins are abhorrent. To change one's mind to new ways of living that exalt Christ and give evidence of the truth of the gospel. It does not mean to be sorry and just apply the blood on your life. It means CHANGE your life. He came to save for sure-but to save the way He says-not what we necessarily want.}

pride, greed, wrath, envy, lust, gluttony, and sloth.

Why it is hard to Repent:

1. The Enjoyment of Sin:

• People may find it difficult to repent because they derive pleasure or benefit from their sinful actions. This can lead to clinging to the sin and resisting the idea of change.

• Sin can provide temporary rewards or gratifications that individuals may not be willing to give up.

2. Fear of Consequences and Shame:

• Repentance can involve facing negative consequences, such as social disapproval or embarrassment.

• People may fear being rejected or judged by others if they confess their sins or admit their mistakes.

• Some may be afraid of a shattered self-image or losing their personality if they repent and change their ways.

3. Difficulty with Change and Self-Defense:

• Repentance often requires acknowledging mistakes, changing behavior, and making a significant shift in mindset.

• Changing deeply ingrained habits can be challenging and may require a conscious effort to resist old patterns.

• Some people may react defensively when confronted with the need to repent, clinging to their justifications or arguments rather than acknowledging wrongdoing.

4. A Perceived Need to Defend Oneself:

• When someone is told they are wrong, it can trigger a fight-or-flight response, making it difficult to accept the accusation or to repent.

• People may feel a need to defend their actions or justify their behavior instead of acknowledging their mistakes.

5. Perception of God:

• Some individuals may struggle with repentance due to a distorted view of God, seeing Him as unforgiving or punitive rather than loving and merciful.

• A fear of God's judgment or displeasure can prevent people from seeking forgiveness and repentance.

6. Focus on Self:

• Repentance requires a shift in focus from self to God, which can be difficult for those who are primarily concerned with their own needs and desires.

• Some may prioritize their own comfort or reputation over seeking God's glory and forgiveness.

7. Complexity and Untidiness:

• Repentance can be seen as a complex and untidy process, which may make it seem daunting or overwhelming.

• The thought of having to address past mistakes and make changes can be unsettling.
