Lectio Divina: read, reflect, respond, rejoice!
My Lectio Divina: Matthew 5:2-11
JESUS opened his mouth and taught them, saying:
God is the focal point of all of life. He is the one who gives all gifts.
I am Blessed if I know I am poor in spirit. That means I know that I am completely dependent on God for all things. I need a father to love me and provide for me. I need the divine blood to cleanse and redeem me. I need the Holy Spirit to empower and guide me from inside. This is the kingdom of heaven!
Blessed are those who mourn for their sin! God is my focal point so the one thing I need to really mourn is my own sin against the only one who truly loves me. When I see that, I shall be comforted because He is mercy and will pick me up.
Jesus showed us that meekness defeats sin and death. Therefore Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. I will inherit the new earth coming down! I must be willing to be meek and wait for my inheritance which always occurs after a death not before.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. If I hunger and thirst for righteousness, I am actually hungering and thirsting for God! He wants to fill me with himself. I will be satisfied in him!
Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. God is full of Mercy and wants to save. If I live a repentant life and ask for mercy, I will receive it! In order to receive I must also give mercy. We are blinded here by so much darkness and self desires. Because I know weakness I must be merciful to those who are weak. If I am strong it is grace not me! We all need grace.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. If my heart is pure I will know that God is my one and only love. This love can purify all my other desires and keep me close to Him. He is where my soul is safe.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. If I am preaching repentance to get into the kingdom, peace will come to those who do. Peace is only on God! Peacemakers bring people to God, the only place there is peace. We do not bring false peace regarding circumstances. Circumstances can change-God saves souls no matter their consequences!
Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. The kingdom is righteousness, peace, and joy in God. If I am persecuted for righteousness then I am actually in God. It does not matter the persecution, my soul is safe in Him! I will have peace and joy knowing I am in God and his kingdom!
Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. It is an honor to suffer like and for the Savior who loved me and gave his life for me. It shows I am with and in Him. Be joyful that there is proof you are in God!
