Love vs Union:
God loves all and calls all to be his.
Union is intimacy. It is for those who forsake themselves and stay close to him. This is painful for the self but fruitful for the soul.
I thought I felt God’s love. But what I felt was union. There were a few times I could actually feel him. This was not his love, for he loved me before I knew it. What I felt was union with him.
Sin blocks me. I can’t experience union because I am not as close. I have other things in my mind and heart that block me. Or He has a reason to stay far away for it is Grace alone. All I can do is ask for Grace to fight what blocks and ask for Grace of His presence.
If I don’t feel union this does not mean I am not loved or I am lost. It means there is a reason and I am to use it to grow. Whether that is fighting sin or purifying my faith in darkness.
God never stops loving. But union always has conditions because He is Holy. Only Moses could see him face to face, the Israelites had separation due to their sin, but He never not loved them.
So it is with the new Covenant. All are loved by Jesus, but those who forsake themselves can be closer united. We grow in unity more and more, or we even fall back. But his love never fails.
